Part 1 of The Unveiled Source: A 7-day Holy Week Series
"If anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There he is!’ do not believe it." — Matthew 24:23
Two thousand years ago today—the Monday of Holy Week—Jesus didn’t walk into the Temple to offer a polite prayer or blend into the scenery. He didn't come to uphold the status quo or provide a comfortable sermon for the religious elite. Instead, He entered with a purpose that transcended the ordinary expectations of the day.
He walked in to disrupt a system.
As He approached the Temple, the air was thick with the sounds of commerce, the clinking of coins, and the low murmur of bargaining. Jesus looked upon the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of those selling doves, and what He saw grieved the very Heart of the Father. In that sacred space, which was meant to be a "House of Prayer," He recognized that it had been transformed into a bustling marketplace, a haven for profit rather than a sanctuary for worship. The sacredness of the Temple was being overshadowed by the greed and exploitation of the very people who were supposed to guide others toward a deeper relationship with God.
He saw that the "House of Prayer" had become a marketplace of gatekeeping, where access to the Divine was restricted and commodified. The religious leaders had established a system that favored their own interests, placing barriers between the people and their Creator. This was not merely a critique of the practices of the day; it was a profound indictment of a spiritual hierarchy that had lost its way. Jesus wasn’t attacking the people's faith; rather, He was clearing the "middlemen" who had positioned themselves as the only authorized access points to the Divine. They had created a system that prioritized profit over piety, and in doing so, they had betrayed the very essence of what it meant to worship God.
When He flipped those tables, He wasn't just scattering coins; He was shattering the box that men had built around the presence of God. In that moment, Jesus was not only reclaiming the Temple's sanctity but also challenging the very foundations of a corrupt system that had distorted the truth. He was declaring that the presence of God could not be contained or controlled by human institutions or practices.
The act of overturning the tables was a powerful symbol of liberation—a call to return to the heart of worship, a direct invitation for all people to engage with God without intermediaries. It was a radical act of love, demonstrating that access to the Father was open to everyone, not just a select few. In this transformative moment, Jesus redefined the relationship between humanity and the Divine, reminding all who witnessed it that true worship is rooted in authenticity and sincerity, free from the chains of exploitation.
The Graven Image: Decoding the Mental Box
Growing up as a preacher’s daughter in a strict Baptist household, the Second Commandment was a cornerstone of my upbringing: "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image." This commandment was instilled in me from a young age. I was taught that this directive served as a stern warning against the creation and worship of gold statues, intricately carved idols, and ancient pagan altars that were prevalent in the cultures surrounding us. These were seen as tangible representations of false gods, leading the faithful astray from the one true God.
However, as I have matured in wisdom and deepened my understanding of the Divine, I have come to realize that the most dangerous "graven images" are not necessarily those crafted from stone, metal, or wood. Instead, they are constructed from dogma, fear, and exclusion. These abstract yet powerful constructs can trap the spirit and confine the mind, limiting our perception of the Divine and our relationship with the Creator.
A "graven image" can also be defined as any mental box we build in an attempt to contain the omnipresent Creator. It reflects the ego-driven belief that the Infinite can be captured within a finite container, which is an inherently flawed notion. This desire to confine the Divine within our limited understanding leads us to create boundaries that restrict access to God's sacred essence. It is a misguided effort to make the vastness of the Divine comprehensible and manageable, which ultimately diminishes the true nature of God.
When we insist that:
God only speaks through one specific translation (such as the 1611 KJV),
God only listens to one specific denomination,
God only accepts those who follow man-made rules about hair, clothing, and silence...
...we aren't truly worshipping the Creator. Instead, we are essentially worshipping the box we put Him in, a box that we have constructed based on our limited interpretations and cultural biases. This act of confinement is not merely an oversight; it is a profound misstep in our spiritual journey. We are attempting to "grave" or carve the Divine into a shape that we can control, predict, and protect, believing that this is an expression of faith. However, this is the ultimate Ego Trap. It masquerades as "guarding the truth," but in reality, it is building a cage that stifles the very essence of our spiritual existence.
Furthermore, there is a deeper transgression occurring within this framework: We are using God for a vain thing. The traditional understanding we were taught—that taking His name in vain meant using it as a casual swear word—only scratches the surface of a much more sobering reality. To take God's name in vain is to attach "God or God says" to a man-made narrative, a narrative that often serves our own interests rather than the truth of the Divine. When we invoke God to validate a preferred set of beliefs—beliefs that are designed to control others and enforce conformity—we are, in essence, using the Holy for a vain, earthly purpose.
We are constructing a cage and calling it a Kingdom, using the Almighty's weight and authority to anchor the corners of our own narrow boxes. This is the ultimate ego trap, a perilous pitfall for those who seek to define and confine the Divine. It may feel like "guarding the truth," but in reality, it violates the very Commandments that were intended to guide us toward a broader, more inclusive understanding of God. It is a call to examine our beliefs critically, to break free from the mental constraints we have imposed, and to embrace the boundless nature of the Creator, who exists beyond our limited perceptions and constructs.
Flipping the Tables of the Mind
In the Gospel of Matthew, specifically in chapter 24, Jesus imparts a significant and profound warning to His followers and to all who seek truth. He cautions against the impulse to run into the "desert" or to search in "secret chambers" simply because someone has claimed that Christ is "only there." This admonition is not merely a directive; it is a deep insight into the nature of spiritual seeking and its pitfalls.
Why is this warning so essential?
The reason lies in the understanding of the Christ-frequency—the True Source of all existence—which is fundamentally All in All. This concept transcends physical locations, rituals, and institutions. It invites individuals to recognize that the Divine is not confined to any single place or person. By flipping the tables on that significant Holy Monday, Jesus was enacting a powerful Karmic Shift.
This act was not just a moment of indignation; it was a profound symbolic gesture aimed at awakening the consciousness of every individual present in that bustling courtyard, as well as every person who encounters this message today. In doing so, He revealed three transformative truths that continue to resonate through the ages:
You are the Temple, and the Kingdom of God is Within You: This truth emphasizes that you do not require a middleman, an ordained title, or a "stamped piece of paper" from any religious institution to access the Divine presence. The connection to the Divine is inherent within each individual. Your breath serves as your direct link, a reminder that every inhale and exhale is a sacred act. Furthermore, your heart acts as the altar where the divine and the human meet. This internal temple is where true worship happens, free from external constraints and societal expectations.
The Tool is Neutral: The tables that stood in the Temple were not inherently "evil"; rather, it was the intent behind their use that had devolved into a practice of profit and exclusion. This serves as a crucial lesson for all spiritual seekers: we must look beyond the mere "objects" of our religious practices and institutions to discern the energy and intention they carry. By examining our motivations and the purposes behind our rituals, we can reclaim the sacredness of these tools and ensure they serve to unite rather than divide.
The Veil is an Illusion: The perceived barriers that we believe exist between ourselves and the Source of all creation are, in truth, constructs of human design. Jesus did not come to erect a new wall or create additional barriers; instead, He came to reveal that such walls were never intended to exist in the first place. This profound realization invites us to dismantle the illusions that keep us separated from the Divine, encouraging us to recognize our inherent connection to all that is sacred.
Reclaiming Your Sovereignty
To my beloved brothers and sisters in the ministry, and to the dedicated pastors who continue to cling tightly to the "box" of tradition and interpretation: I express this message with profound love and respect, yet with the voice of one who has traversed the fiery trials of faith and emerged transformed.
The Master has already flipped the tables. In the sacred narrative of our faith, we witness the moment when Jesus, in His righteous indignation, overturned the tables of the money changers. This act was not merely a display of anger; it was a profound declaration that the structures we build around our faith, if they stifle the spirit of love and inclusivity, become nothing more than prisons of our own making.
If your faith has become a cage that necessitates silence, shame, or the exclusion of those deemed "outcasts" to thrive, then it is not a sanctuary of divine love—it is, in essence, a "graven image". True faith does not shrink back in fear of the vastness and mystery of God; instead, it embraces that very vastness, reveling in the infinite possibilities of divine love. Love, in its purest form, does not seek to confine itself within rigid boundaries; it yearns for a heart that is willing to set it free, to allow it to flow freely and transform lives.
Today, I extend an earnest invitation to everyone who is open and willing to engage in a reflective examination of the "tables" present in your own spiritual lives.
What rules, traditions, or expectations have you been adhering to that feel more like heavy burdens upon your shoulders rather than the wings that lift your spirit?
Who are the "gatekeepers" you have permitted to stand between you and your unfiltered connection to the Creator?
These gatekeepers may take many forms—doctrinal dogmas, societal norms, or even personal fears—that create unnecessary barriers to experiencing the fullness of divine grace and love.
The door is off the hinges. The Temple is being cleared. We are entering a transformative phase, moving beyond the limiting "myth of the box" and stepping boldly into the Unveiled Source of all creation. This journey is not a betrayal of the core teachings of Jesus; rather, it is the ultimate fulfillment of those teachings, a radical return to the essence of love, compassion, and acceptance that He embodied. The journey of rebirth and renewal has only just begun, and as we embrace this new path, we must be willing to shed the old skins that no longer serve us.
Let us be courageous in our pursuit of spiritual freedom, allowing the winds of change to guide us toward a deeper understanding of our faith and our connection to the Divine.
